Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley says voters are not expressing concerns over former President Donald Trump‘s or Hunter Biden‘s legal issues but are instead focused on “distrust in federal government.”

Haley said voters are also focused on other issues shortly after the Department of Justice appointed David Weiss as special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden‘s son Hunter.

“I will tell you that when we go to town halls in South Carolina, in New Hampshire, and Iowa, no one is talking about Trump’s legal issues. No one’s talking about Biden’s legal issues. What we are talking about is the fact that groceries and gas are still expensive. They’re worried about the fact that their kids have fallen behind, they don’t understand why we haven’t closed a border, and they wanna know why we are letting China have our lunch,” Haley said on Fox News’s America Reports.

“I don’t hear anything about, you know, the Hunter Biden cases or the Trump cases. I do hear a lot about the distrust in federal government, the distrust in our intelligence agencies, the distrust in the Department of Justice, and the fact that the federal government’s just way too big,” Haley added.

The former South Carolina governor also bemoaned the “corruption and chaos” within the federal Congress.

“That’s the focus that we have to do. All this corruption and chaos, even when you look at Congress, what has Congress done for us lately? Nothing,” Haley said.

To remedy the corruption, Haley said she would remove the head of every government agency and clean house at the various agencies under the president.

Haley is one of several Republican candidates who have qualified for the first GOP debate and said they intend to debate. The former U.N. ambassador signed the Republican National Committee loyalty pledge on Wednesday, saying, “Alright fellas, your turn.”

Trump remains the clear front-runner in the GOP primary field, with his closest competitor, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), nearly 40 points behind him, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
