Investigations into Hunter Biden are sparking concern about whether President Joe Biden has acted unethically or committed any crimes himself.
The president’s son is facing scrutiny from the Justice Department and Republican members of Congress over an alleged criminal scheme involving the then-Vice President Biden, as well a separate indictment on gun charges after his plea deal on two tax charges fell apart this summer.

A new poll shows that 35% of U.S. adults believe the president has done something illegal, with 33% believing Biden did something unethical but not illegal, according to an Associated Press-NORC Research Center survey released Saturday.
GOP members are conducting an investigation into Hunter Biden led by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), attempting to connect Hunter’s business as a board member for a Ukrainian oil and gas firm with his father while he was vice president.
Hunter Biden was also indicted by special counsel David Weiss in connection with a gun he purchased in October 2018. The DOJ accused him of violating orders against drug users having guns. This month, Hunter pleaded not guilty to all three counts that were brought against him.
When broken down by party, only 8% of Democrats think the president is guilty of crimes relating to his son’s activities, and 38% of independents fall into that category. As expected, that rate increases among Republicans, with 65% believing Biden did something illegal pertaining to Hunter.

Last month, Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry against Biden and held their first hearing to review the legal questions involved in the case shortly after. GOP members are attempting to look further into Hunter Biden’s overseas business, but a lack of evidence for impeachable offenses could halt the process.
Americans do not support the impeachment inquiry into Biden by a slim margin, with 39% disapproving of the inquiry and 33% approving the move. When separated by party, 67% of Republicans approve of the impeachment inquiry, but only 7% of Democrats agree, while 38% of independents report the same.
