The Washington Examiner’s Byron York emphasized the importance of Hunter Biden’s former business partner Devon Archer’s testimony on Capitol Hill on Monday.
Republicans believe the highly anticipated closed-door testimony with the House Oversight Committee will provide insight into President Joe Biden’s role in Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.
HUNTER BIDEN INVESTIGATION: WHY THE DEVON ARCHER TESTIMONY IS SO IMPORTANT
“I think we’ve established beyond any doubt that Hunter Biden engaged in a lot of questionable business deals with shady foreign partners that made him millions of dollars, trading on his father’s name,” York said on Fox News.
“What we have not been able to see is any real connection between those business dealings and Joe Biden.”
York said that is where Devon Archer’s testimony comes into play, emphasizing that if those reports are true, Archer may confirm that on a number of occasions when Hunter Biden was on calls with businessmen overseas, his father was involved.
Archer, who was a fellow board member alongside Hunter Biden with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, could confirm that there were multiple incidents when “Hunter Biden would call up his father, put him on speakerphone, and introduce him,” York said. “And Joe Biden would exchange pleasantries with that person.”
Archer and Hunter Biden were friends for decades, and both graduated from Yale University. When asked about the current status of their relationship, York said, “They’re often described as ex-friends.”
The Justice Department submitted a letter to a judge over the weekend, requesting that Archer start to serve out his one-year prison sentence in an unrelated fraud case.
Archer was convicted of securities fraud in 2018 after defrauding a Native American tribe and sentenced to prison in 2022 but has not begun serving out his sentence.

This testimony comes after Hunter Biden’s plea deal blew up last week and his plan to enter a guilty plea as part of a deal with federal investigators fell through as a judge showed concerns over the terms of the agreement.
It was confirmed Archer would testify last week, after canceling his deposition a total of three times. Archer was subpoenaed on June 12 by the House Oversight Committee, with Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and multiple Republicans insisting his testimony is crucial to the investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
