Andrew Tate, an influencer known for misogynistic statements, was kicked off multiple social media platforms after seeing a surge of interest.

Tate went viral over the summer, attracting controversy and interest for his misogynistic statements, including descriptions of how he would physically assault a woman if she cheated on him. Now, TikTok and Meta have decided to ban the influencer permanently over his remarks about women.

TikTok banned Tate for violating the company’s policies on “content that attacks, threatens, incites violence against, or otherwise dehumanizes an individual or a group,” a spokesperson told the Washington Post.

Meta echoed these terms, stating on Saturday that it banned Tate for violating the company’s policies on dangerous individuals and organizations and that the ban was permanent.

Tate went viral in 2022 over remarks comparing women to property and alleging that men would rather date 18- to 19-year-olds than women in their 20s because younger women have had less sex with men. His name exploded in attention on TikTok, reaching 16.7 billion views of the #andrewtate hashtag. While some of the remarks feature users attacking Tate for his opinions on how to treat women, others echoed his ideas as valuable.

Tate describes his remarks as part of his role as a “success coach” who also plays an “online character” in an attempt to justify his statements. He claims that he has posted several videos praising women and that his goal as a coach is to encourage men to “avoid toxic people as a whole.” Tate operates Hustlers University, an affiliate program to help followers earn thousands of dollars by encouraging members to sign up to join. The program promises to help attendees learn to make money through “stock analysis, options plays, crypto analysis, and more.” The program uses multilevel marketing tactics to encourage others to attend.

Tate first developed notoriety in 2016, when he was booted off the British version of Big Brother after footage of him striking a woman with a belt went viral. Tate alleged that the hitting was consensual.

Tate also has links to the alt-right. He spent time with political personalities such as Infowars host Paul Joseph Watson and far-right commentator Jack Posobiec in 2019 during a visit to Washington, D.C., for CPAC. He has also appeared multiple times as a commentator on Infowars.

The influencer was also allegedly involved in a human trafficking raid. Tate’s house was raided in April by Romanian officials as part of an investigation that began after someone reported that a woman was being held against her will within the home, according to the Daily Beast. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, according to officials.

Tate was permanently banned from Twitter in 2017 after alleging in a discussion about Harvey Weinstein that women “bare some responsibility” for being sexually assaulted.
