Iran’s foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, issued a warning to Israel through the United Nations on Saturday to halt the attacks on Gaza, stating that a larger-scale war in the Middle East could erupt as a result.
Amirabdollahian met with U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland to discuss how to assist with the release of hostages and prevent a regional war, according to Axios. Other officials were also called on to relay Iran’s message, including Israeli national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, per Axios‘s diplomatic sources.

Amirabdollahian told reporters in Beirut that Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, the Iran-backed militant group, has been considering all scenarios of war. He met on Friday with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
“I know about the scenarios that Hezbollah has put in place,” Amirabdollahian said. “Any step the resistance (Hezbollah) will take will cause a huge earthquake in the Zionist entity.”
Hezbollah has been launching rockets from southern Lebanon into northern Israel over the past few days. On Saturday, Hezbollah launched guided missiles and mortar shells, targeting Israeli outposts in the disputed Chebaa Farms. The Israel Defense Forces said their troops fired back in response.
The Lebanese group’s arsenal is estimated to hold over 100,000 rockets, according to Israeli sources.

Israel is expected to begin a ground offensive in Gaza soon, one week after Hamas’s terrorist attacks. Israel’s military ordered over a million people to leave the northern half of the Gaza Strip, dropping thousands of leaflets across Gaza on Friday. Palestinians were instructed to move to southern Gaza within 24 hours ahead of the expected military offensive to target Hamas, while Hamas told Palestinians to remain in place.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the Embassy of Israel and Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment.
