The Students for Justice in Palestine group at George Washington University held a “Vigil for the Martyrs of Palestine” as fighting in Gaza escalates.

Many of the students at the event obscured their faces, apparently not enthused about being seen. The vigil was announced early on Tuesday, pitched as a vigil “in honor of our martyrs.”

FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC CRISES UPEND BIDEN 2020 CAMPAIGN PROMISE OF RETURN TO STABILITY

“Join us today at 7:00 pm in Kogan Plaza for a vigil in honor of our martyrs,” a post on the organization’s Instagram said. “We grieve them and we uplift the struggle for liberation that they made the ultimate sacrifice for. May their memories continue to light the fire of resistance and guide us on the path towards liberation and return.”

The group didn’t make it clear as to what constituted a martyr but praised attacks against Israel.

“They call us savages, barbarians, terrorists, but we know who the real terrorists are,” one of the speakers said, per video taken by the Daily Signal.

One of the chants called for a new Intifada, referring to two previous resistance campaigns by Palestinian militants that involved suicide bombings.

A speaker appeared to justify attacks against Israeli settlers, declaring that “Every settler is an aggressor, a soldier, and an occupier.”

Over 1,900 people have died on both sides of the war in Israel and Palestine.
