The only abortion clinic in Mississippi and the losing party in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is fully booked as it scrambles to see patients before the state outlaws the procedure.
The clinic, which will likely shut its doors when the state’s trigger law banning abortions takes effect in nine days, is no longer taking patients because it is fully booked, a receptionist for Jackson Women’s Health Organization told NPR. Following the Supreme Court’s Friday ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, volunteers were seen outside the clinic holding up signs saying the facility remained open even as other clinics closed in the hours following the decision, according to the Mississippi Free Press.
SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS ROE V. WADE, PAVING WAY FOR STATE ABORTION BANS
“This clinic is open,” the volunteers’ signs read. These abortion rights supporters are reportedly being opposed by anti-abortion preachers screaming, “Roe is overturned!” Other signs held by protesters featured slogans such as “abortion is murder” and “killing babies today.”

The Dobbs ruling turned the power to regulate abortions back to the states, meaning Mississippi will be permitted to implement a 2007 state law that will “prohibit abortions in the state of Mississippi” at any stage “except in cases where necessary for the preservation of the mother’s life or where the pregnancy was caused by rape.”
