Famed actor James Caan died from an amalgamation of heart problems, a death certificate for The Godfather and Elf star revealed.

Caan died from a heart attack and coronary artery disease and had also suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure, the report obtained by TMZ said.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” a tweet from the Hollywood actor’s account read on July 7.

Caan died on July 6 at the age of 82 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. The actor was buried in Eden Memorial Park, a place where many celebrities have been laid to rest. The cause of his death was not clear at the time.

Tributes for the Hollywood great began pouring in after word of his death spread.

“So sorry to hear the news. I loved working with him. And the only Jew I knew who could calf rope with the best of them. Love to the family,” Rob Reiner, who had directed Caan in Misery, tweeted.

Caan’s career in Hollywood spanned nearly six decades. He racked up a number of awards, including an Emmy nomination for his role in the 1971 TV film Brian’s Song and an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in The Godfather as Sonny Corleone.

The actor had multiple marriages over the years and was divorced four times. He is survived by five children and four grandchildren.
