Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is drafting legislation to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress.
Wray refused to hand over classified information Comer demanded through a subpoena related to an alleged “criminal scheme” involving President Joe Biden when he was serving as vice president. Comer said on Twitter Thursday that the House Oversight Committee “will vote on this next week if the FBI continues to defy my lawful subpoena,” adding that the “FBI is not above Congress. I will protect congressional oversight authorities.”

During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Comer said Wray is now at the point of interfering with congressional action.
“We have oversight over the federal government, but for some reason, the FBI thinks they are immune to oversight,” Comer said.
Wray and Comer spoke on the phone Wednesday, together with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and Wray confirmed the document Comer is looking for exists but declined to turn it over to Congress, citing the sensitivity of the matter.
“All we want is this form, and it’s not classified,” Comer said. “They can redact the name of the informant, I’m fine with that.”
Wray offered Comer the chance to view the internal bureau document with redacted information on FBI grounds, but Grassley and Comer were not satisfied.
Grassley appeared on Fox Thursday, stating that Wray’s offer “is not good enough.”
“Turn it over to us and honor the subpoena,” Grassley said. “Honor the constitutional responsibility to Congress.”

The document Comer seeks is related to the Biden family’s business records. The House Oversight Committee claims it has documents proving the Biden family set up dozens of shell companies meant to conceal money received from foreign nationals.
“There’s a pattern here that would suggest this is a credible allegation,” Comer said.
