Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki and President Joe Biden’s former chief of staff Ron Klain gave their take on the winners and losers of the first GOP presidential debate, and the “person with the best night” went to their former boss.
“I thought overall the person with the best night was Joe Biden,” Klain told Psaki on MSNBC.

While offering analysis of the debate that was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, the two former Biden staffers discussed the performance of the eight candidates present for the debate, which included Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
And while the GOP front-runner, former President Donald Trump, chose not to attend the debate, both Psaki and Klain agreed that the candidates present did not make their debate night count.
“You looked at those eight people, you couldn’t imagine none of them being president, you couldn’t imagine none of them making a credible case against Joe Biden,” Klain said. “Instead, you just heard more and more MAGA extremism from them.”

“If there’s any theory that the Republican Party without Trump would not be ‘Trumpy’ — it was about as ‘Trumpy’ as you can get,” he continued. “They all decided who could be the most extreme on abortion, one after the other. Who could be most extreme on all kinds of other issues. And I think they all kind of generally hurt themselves.”
Psaki told Klain that she imagined the candidates wishing they had him as an adviser because “they need it — clearly.”
