Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is backtracking concerns about President Joe Biden’s electability as the White House attempts to herd House Democrats back into the president’s fold.

Nadler told the press Tuesday he stood with Biden. “At this point, he is the best candidate. He is the only candidate.”

Gone are Nadler’s worries expressed earlier this week during a leadership call with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). On Sunday, Nadler was one of several House Democrats who made a forceful case for urging Biden to drop his bid for reelection during the course of a two-hour meeting.

Within 24 hours of the call, the White House admonished Democrats for challenging Biden’s bid for the presidency.

“It’s time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump,” Biden wrote in a letter to congressional Democrats on Monday afternoon.

Biden rebuked critics’ calls for him to step aside, saying that doing so subverted the democratic process.

“We had a democratic nomination process and the voters have spoken clearly and decisively. I received over fourteen million votes,” the president wrote. “Do we now just say this process didn’t matter? That the voters don’t have a say?”

Nadler is one of numerous House Democrats who have either outright called for the president to step aside or voiced concerns about Biden’s path to reelection as fears mount that Biden’s mental state is compromised.

As one of the most senior Democrats to challenge the president’s ability to win reelection, Nadler’s act to walk back his concerns marks a victory for Biden’s efforts to unify his party.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Nadler’s office for comment.
