Singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who was famous for his tropical and folksy style of music with a frozen alcoholic beverage in hand, passed away on Friday night at the age of 76, according to a statement on his official website.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” the statement on his website said. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

No cause of death was given.
Back in May, Buffett announced on social media that he had to reschedule a show after being hospitalized in Boston to address issues that needed “immediate attention.”
Born in in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Christmas day in 1946, James William Buffett was raised in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi.
In 1977, Buffett released “Margaritaville,” which quickly took on a cult-like following. He became famous for his music about easy and laid-back beach living. He turned his folksy beach music into a billion-dollar empire of restaurants, resorts, and frozen drinks.

He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006, one of music’s highest honors.
Buffett is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Savannah and Sarah; and son, Cameron.
