“Across life’s seasons, President Jimmy Carter, a man of great faith, has walked with God. In this tender time of transitioning, God is surely walking with him. May he, Rosalynn & the entire Carter family be comforted with that peace and surrounded by our love & prayers,” tweeted fellow Georgia resident Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

Former the Daily Show host Jon Stewart also reacted, writing, “Jimmy Carter is one of the kindest most thoughtful people I’ve ever had the honor of meeting. He’s the best of us.”

“In continued and fervent prayer this morning for former President Jimmy Carter and the Carter Family. He means so much to so many around the world. Lord, hear our prayer,” chimed in Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

Former President Donald Trump ally Roger Stone also issued well wishes, tweeting, “Jimmy Carter was not a great President but he is a good man, a patriotic American and an honest Christian who did clean house at the CIA after their abuses became public. May God bless him.”

“President Carter led our nation with dignity and, in retirement, has devoted his life to serving ordinary people all over the world. I had the privilege of meeting with him at the Carter Center several years ago and will always cherish his kind words about our shared agenda,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

“I’m praying for President Carter and his family,” added Majority Leader Chuck Scumer (D-NY). Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) similarly said “Wishing President Carter comfort, love, and peace. My thoughts are with Rosalynn and their entire family.”

“Our prayers are with the Carter family at this time. May they find peace in all that President Carter has contributed throughout his decades of service to Georgia, our nation, and our world,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger wrote in reference to the Georgia native’s decision.
