Podcast host and comedian Joe Rogan has slammed the claim that the COVID-19 vaccine was 100% effective, discussing documents that showed the claim was based on misleading findings.

Rogan was discussing the COVID-19 vaccine with late-night host Bill Maher when he talked about the Pfizer study, claiming that two people died from the virus. Rogan then stated that the phrase “100% effective” for the vaccine came from the fact that “two is 100% more than one.”

“I didn’t believe that, I said, ‘that’s bullsh**,'” Rogan said in the latest episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. “And then Robert Kennedy Jr. sent me an email with, like, the actual studies, and I read it, and I was like, ‘holy sh**! They can do that?’ Like, they can just — that’s just a lie! That’s not 100%! That’s like, whatever the percentage is, you get 2,000, and one of them’s dead. It’s that percentage. That’s the real percentage. It’s not 100%. That’s crazy!”

Maher also stated he thought it was “curious” how many Democratic supporters have historically been skeptical of “corporate America, including the pharmaceutical industry” but were quick to support the COVID-19 vaccine once it was created. He also noted that the Purdue Pharma controversy, which sold “hillbilly heroin” to people and ended up “killing hundreds of thousands of people,” had only happened a few months before the COVID-19 vaccine was made available to the public.

Rogan’s statements regarding the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine come as some places have reimplemented COVID-19 safety precautions, with one college in Georgia temporarily bringing back mask mandates and social distancing.

Additionally, many major pharmacy chains in the United States experienced high volumes in sales of COVID-19 rapid test kits in August in the wake of rising case counts and hospitalizations.

Former White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci defended masking again on Saturday and urged citizens to listen to health officials.

“I am concerned that people will not abide by recommendations,” Fauci said. “I would hope that if we get to the point that the volume of cases is such and organizations like the CDC recommends — CDC does not mandate anything, recommends that people wear masks — I would hope that people abide by that recommendation and take into account the risks to themselves and their families.”
