Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) said that House Republicans are “committed” to bringing all 12 appropriations bills to the floor.
In an appearance on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, Johnson elaborated on his plan to avoid a government shutdown, saying that he has worked through the weekend on a stopgap measure to give the lower chamber more time to pass all of the appropriation bills before the Nov. 17 deadline, when the continuing resolution passed by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is set to expire.
NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER: ANY CHANCE OF AN UPSET, OR IS BESHEAR HOME DRY?
“We recognize that we may not get all the appropriations bills done by this deadline of November 17, but we’re going to continue in good faith,” said Johnson. “We’re committed to bringing 12 bills to the floor as the law, statutory law requires Congress to do that hasn’t been done in many years.”
He continued, “But again, we’re changing the way Washington works because we believe in these to be more accountable and more transparent for the people, and so we’re going to fight that fight every single day. And we’ll get that job done.”

Fears of a government shutdown have hung overhead since Johnson’s predecessor kicked the can down the road. The Biden administration is attempting to link funding for Israel and Ukraine, among other things, while most Republicans want to separate the funding into individual bills.
