House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took aim at former Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) possible 2024 bid in a new fundraising email obtained by the Washington Examiner.
The email included a straw poll asking recipients if Cheney, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, should run in 2024.

McCarthy and Cheney, a former member of GOP leadership who was ousted by her conference over her criticisms of Trump and his refusal to accept the 2020 election results, had a contentious relationship in her final year in office with top Republicans slamming the Wyoming Republican for her decision to join the Jan. 6 committee.
Cheney was defeated in her primary race in the wake of the former president and his allies working to oust her. She’s indicated she is interested in running in 2024, which could pit her against Trump.

While a large portion of Republicans has vocally come out against the political scion, proponents remain encouraged that she will be a leading force in the push for the party to move away from Trumpism.
“Clearly Kevin McCarthy still has an insecurity complex when it comes to Liz Cheney,” one former congressional aide said.
