Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) said Mount Rushmore is the “greatest symbol of our freedom” following Ben & Jerry’s trashing of the Fourth of July and call for the United States to return Mount Rushmore to Native Americans.
“I’m not going to listen to a bunch of liberal Vermont businessmen who think they know everything about this country and haven’t studied our history,” Noem told the crew of Fox & Friends.

“Right now, Mount Rushmore is the greatest symbol of our freedom in [the] history of the United States of America.”
The national memorial also serves as a learning tool, according to Noem.
“We can learn from the men on that mountain. We can do better, but, boy, they led us through some challenging times,” she said. “I think Americans in this country need some inspiration, and we can gain it from a monument like that.”

“We should be proud of America and knock off what Ben & Jerry’s is doing,” Noem added. “They don’t have any idea what they’re doing.”
Noem’s remarks arrive two days after the frozen treats company detailed how “colonizers” robbed the Lakota people of the Black Hills through broken treaties before desecrating them with the heads of “four white men — two of whom enslaved people and all of whom were hostile to Indigenous people and values.”
