A majority of citizens believe former President Donald Trump intentionally did something illegal in the Manhattan DA’s case regarding the alleged falsification of business records.
A new poll from ABC News and Ipsos shows 53% of citizens believe he did something intentionally illegal, while only 11% say he did not intentionally act improperly.

Only 20% of those surveyed said he did not do anything wrong in the case, while 16% said they were unsure.
The survey also showed that 50% of citizens, including 54% of independents, believe Trump should have been charged with a crime. Only 14% of Republicans surveyed believe Trump should have been charged with a crime.
Recent polls have shown Trump is at his highest levels of support in the Republican primary for the 2024 election, but they also show vulnerability if he advances to the general election. This poll appears to back up others that have shown Trump’s indictment is not helping him outside of the Republican primary.
A poll conducted just before the former president was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury showed that more than six in 10 citizens did not want Trump as president again.
Another poll taken just before the indictment showed Trump leading in the GOP primary but trailing against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), widely considered a top 2024 contender, in other poll questions, including favorability, honesty, and a general election race against President Joe Biden.

Trump pleaded not guilty to the 34 criminal counts against him in the Manhattan courthouse last week. The indictment follows an investigation into hush money payments he made to two women in 2016 ahead of the presidential election.
The former president is also facing other probes including an investigation by a grand jury in Georgia for his alleged interference in the 2020 election in the Peach State, along with an investigation by special counsel Jack Smith for Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents and involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
