A man who entered the New York Times building armed with a knife was arrested on Thursday after he demanded to speak with someone in the politics section, police said.

A New York City Police Department spokeswoman told the Washington Examiner that a man entered the building with a knife in his hand, asking to “speak with someone in the politics section.” Security denied him, and he handed over his knife when asked without incident. He was taken by police to a local hospital, where he is being evaluated.

The spokeswoman denied earlier reports that the man was carrying a stuffed animal and disputed the characterization of him as mentally unwell. She added that no further information could be given at this time.

The incident occurred sometime after noon.
