A man was found guilty of murder in the fatal shooting of David Dorn, a former St. Louis police captain who was killed during the 2020 summer riots.

A man was found guilty of murder in the fatal shooting of David Dorn, a former St. Louis police captain who was killed during the 2020 summer riots.

Stephen Cannon, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, and three counts of armed criminal action.

“I’m very thankful to the jurors who saw the truth and all the evidence,” Dorn’s wife, Ann, said outside the courthouse, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She added, “There’s never going to be full closure, but it brings us peace.”

Dorn, 77, was killed while trying to defend his friend’s store from looters during the unrest that followed the death of George Floyd. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor Citizen Honors Award last year.

Sentencing for Cannon is scheduled for Sept. 13. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
