A man accused of raping a 10-year-old Ohio girl who later traveled to Indiana for an abortion was indicted on Thursday.
Gerson Fuentes, 27, was indicted on two felony counts of rape by a Franklin County grand jury, according to a court filing. Fuentes, whose last known address was a Columbus apartment, was arrested last Tuesday, and he confessed to raping the girl on two occasions, police said.

The case of the 10-year-old who had to travel across state lines after Ohio’s “fetal heartbeat” law following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last month gained international attention and was referenced by President Joe Biden. The 10-year-old was said to be six weeks and three days pregnant, according to a report.
Ohio’s law makes abortion illegal after a fetal heartbeat is detected, typically around six weeks, with no exceptions for rape or incest.
Caitlin Bernard, the Indiana doctor who treated the 10-year-old rape victim, sent notice to Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita of her intent to sue him earlier this week, arguing that Rokita’s claims that she did not report performing an abortion on the victim were defamatory. Bernard insisted that she reported the abortion in compliance with state law.

Fuentes is an illegal immigrant, an ICE spokesperson told the Washington Examiner in a phone call last Wednesday. He is being held in Franklin County jail on a $2 million bond.
Under Ohio law, a conviction for raping a child under the age of 13 carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the chance of parole for 15 years.
