Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday, making him her fourth impeachment victim this week.

Greene claimed Mayorkas was negligent at the southern border and violated the Secure Fence Act of 2006 by allowing “border crossers, terrorists, human traffickers, drugs, and other contraband” into the United States. The Secure Fence Act requires the Department of Homeland Security to maintain operational control over the border.

“Since assuming office, Secretary Mayorkas has aided and abetted the complete invasion of our country by deliberately flooding our nation with drugs, terrorists, and illegal aliens,” Greene’s office said in a press release. “He stated under oath that we have operational control of our borders, while also under oath, he stated that no one has ever achieved operational control of the border. He lied to the American people, he lied under oath, and he has blatantly violated his oath of office.”

Greene stated that six million immigrants have crossed into the U.S. illegally during Mayorkas’s reign in President Joe Biden’s administration and a record amount of fentanyl was seized at the border, totaling approximately 40,000 pounds.

In addition, Greene alleged Mayorkas’s “catch-and-release” policies have allowed migrants to enter the country without a strong enforcement mechanism installed to ensure they are processed by the U.S. courts. She also claimed the secretary has left a weak spot in the border wall for smugglers by transferring Border Patrol agents from the wall and having them process, care for, and transfer illegal immigrants.

Greene has also called for the impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves.

The calls for Mayorkas’s impeachment have been growing among conservative lawmakers in the Senate recently, especially after the end of the pandemic-era policy Title 42.

Sens. Roger Marshall (R-KS), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ted Budd (R-NC), and John Hoeven (R-ND) all called for Mayorkas’s impeachment over the crisis at the border, calling his performance a “derelict of duty.”

“This is absolutely a disaster and humanitarian crisis,” Marshall said after visiting the border last week, according to the Daily Mail. “The number one threat to our national security is right here in southern Texas all the way to Arizona.”
