The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited The Mars Wrigley Confectionary with a “serious citation” for an incident involving two workers falling into a vat of chocolate last year.
Two contracted workers in June 2022 fell into a chocolate tank at their M&M/Mars facility in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

The workers were rescued after emergency crews cut a hole in the bottom of the tank to get them out. They received treatment at the hospital.
OSHA fined Mars Wrigley more than $14,500 for the incident and reprimanded the candy factory for not properly training workers on how to clean the chocolate tank in the facility.

The workers were employed by an outside contracting firm and were conducting maintenance work when they fell into the chocolate tank.
A Mars Wigley spokesperson told media that the safety of all of their factory workers “is a top priority for our business.”
