Former Indianapolis Colts offensive guard Matt Ulrich, who helped lead the team to a Super Bowl championship in 2006, has died. He was 41 years old.


Former Indianapolis Colts offensive guard Matt Ulrich, who helped lead the team to a Super Bowl championship in 2006, has died. He was 41 years old.

Ulrich’s death was announced by Colts owner Jim Irsay on social media.

“I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich,” Irsay’s post says. “Matt was with us only two seasons, but left his mark on many. Great guy, I hear he was a great dad — and he was a Super Bowl champ. My prayers to his family.”


Ulrich, who played for Northwestern University, joined the Colts in 2005, in which he appeared in 10 games. He went on to win Super Bowl XLI in 2006 alongside Peyton Manning.

Ulrich started a fitness company in his retirement. In the wake of his death, a fundraiser has been set up to support his family, which has raised nearly $30,000 over the past 18 hours.

A cause of death has not yet been released.
