Mayor Christopher Clark was waiting at an intersection in an SUV alongside his security detail when they observed two masked men in the process of robbing a man at a Chicago Transit Authority bus stop, according to CBS Chicago. The team decided to take action, firing at the men when one of them aimed a gun at their SUV, according to a statement from Harvey, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

The gunfire prompted the would-be robbers to quickly hop into their Jeep and speed off, with Clark’s security detail firing at them all the way. Though the rear window of the Jeep was blown out, it is unknown whether anyone was injured.

A source texted NBC 5 Chicago saying that Clark was “okay” after the incident. A statement from the city of Harvey confirmed the mayor was not harmed.

The suspects are at large and have not been seen since, according to Chicago police.

The location of the attempted robbery is at an intersection where several high-end designer stores are located, ABC 7 Chicago noted.
