Several prominent elected officials were revealed to be on a hit list found in the vehicle of a man suspected of killing a former Wisconsin judge on Friday.

The most prominent names included Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, according to the local ABC station WISN. The list was found in the vehicle of the unnamed suspect who is accused of opening fire on former Juneau County Judge John Roemer, who was found fatally shot and zip-tied to a chair in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, on Friday, the report added.

The unifying link with Roemer may be related to the judicial system, as both Whitmer and McConnell were attorneys before entering politics. The case is being investigated as both a homicide and a domestic terrorist attack, state Attorney General Josh Kaul told reporters Friday.

“This does appear to be a targeted act, and the individual who’s a suspect appears to have had other targets as well. It appears to be related to the judicial system,” Kaul said.

All people identified on the hit list have been notified, the Daily Beast reported.

Police officers were called to Roemer’s house after receiving reports of two gunshots. Officials have not revealed who made the call. A man discovered in the basement, who is believed to be the shooter, was injured from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical condition, reports indicated.

One of Roemer’s three sons with his late wife, Vivian Roemer, may have been a witness to the attack.

Investigators do not believe McConnell, Whitmer, or Evers are at risk, but an investigation from the FBI and the Wisconsin Criminal Investigation division will continue, according to Kaul.
