Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is urging the Justice Department to probe President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump equally in the investigations into their handling of classified documents.

The Senate GOP leader also said he agreed with Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint special counsels in both cases while speaking with Terry Meiners on NewsRadio 840 WHAS in Kentucky.

HOUSE WILL LOOK AT BIDEN AND TRUMP CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS, ACCORDING TO MCCARTHY

“I think the important thing with regard to documents is that both these guys ought to be treated exactly the same way — exactly the same way. And so I think the attorney general probably did the right thing by having two special counsels,” McConnell said.

“What’s good for one candidate for president ought to be good for another one,” he added.

McConnell’s pleas for equal justice come as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters Tuesday the House will look into both classified document cases.

“Look, the House, we have a constitutional responsibility to oversee the Justice Department, and that also means overseeing special counsels,” McCarthy said to reporters Tuesday. “So we will look into both situations.”

The Trump classified documents case is being probed by special counsel Jack Smith, and the Biden classified documents investigation is being handled by special counsel Robert Hur. Smith was appointed by Garland in November 2022, shortly after Trump announced a 2024 bid for president. Hur was appointed by Garland last week.
