Incumbent Democrat Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) defeated his Republican challenger Paul Junge to represent Michigan’s 8th District.

Kildee, who represents Michigan’s 5th District, has now won five consecutive elections since succeeding his long-serving uncle, Rep. Dale Kildee (D-MI), in 2013.

Junge, a former TV anchor, ran on a conservative platform, stressing his time spent in the Department of Homeland Security during the Trump administration. Despite containing the solidly blue cities of Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City, the suburbs in Bay, Genesee, and Saginaw have been shifting to the right for the last several cycles, according to the Michigan Bridge.

Junge stressed the inflation experienced under President Joe Biden in his appeals to voters, while Kildee emphasized the drug pricing reforms of the Inflation Reduction Act and painted Junge as an out-of-touch millionaire.
