Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s political action committee reportedly dished out $42,000 on book purchases the day his memoir was released.
His book, Never Give An Inch: Fighting for the America I Love, which hit bookshelves on Jan. 24, quickly ascended to become the No. 3 New York Times bestseller for hardcover nonfiction during its debut.
POMPEO BLASTS HALEY, SAYS SHE QUIT WITH WORK TO BE DONE
Pompeo’s PAC, Champion American Values, paid Bulk Books $42,000 for “books,” according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, which was reported by Forbes. The New York Times indicated that Pompeo’s book had been boosted by bulk order purchases in its bestseller list.
His memoir recounted his work in the Trump administration, with an emphasis on his foreign policy, and discussed how similar breakthroughs could be achieved again in the future. To prop up his work, Pompeo ran Facebook advertisements touting his memoir in February.
Pompeo has been mulling a 2024 run, but because he hasn’t declared his candidacy, he is allowed to profit when his PAC purchases the books, according to Forbes. The practice of bulk book purchases to boost sales is not uncommon.
Last year, former Vice President Mike Pence’s Great America Committee spent $91,000 on his books. However, the New York Times did not initially indicate his book was buoyed by mass purchases.
Pompeo has teased that his 2024 announcement will come in the spring. Over recent months, Pompeo has traveled to or engaged in activity in key battleground states and even taken subtle jabs at his onetime boss, former President Donald Trump.
