Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) hit out against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after the New York Democrat accused GOP leaders of hypocrisy for reinstating the Georgia Republican to her committee assignments despite her previous antisemitic comments.
Moments before the House voted to oust Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from her spot on the Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez denounced the move as being politically motivated. She accused Republican leaders of hypocrisy, citing examples of GOP members making similar incendiary statements in recent years.
AOC BLASTS HOUSE REPUBLICANS’ ‘RACISM’ AHEAD OF VOTE TO OUST OMAR FROM COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT
“[Rep.] George Santos claimed that his grandparents were in the Holocaust. That was a lie. A disgusting lie. Marjorie Taylor-Greene regularly trafficking in antisemitic conspiracy theories. Paul Gosar inciting … violence against specific members in the body,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN on Thursday. “[McCarthy] has appointed all three of them to House committees.”
Hey there! In case you forgot, we sit on the same committee, which debated for the first time this week.
I don’t blame you if you forgot. You spent almost no time there. In the few minutes you did show up, you claimed one elementary school got *$5 billion dollars* to teach CRT🤣 https://t.co/pPwI4Irz9c

Ocasio-Cortez specifically hit out against Greene, pointing to past comments she made in which she promoted conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks. The New York Democrat also denounced Greene for comments she made in December 2021 suggesting “Jewish space lasers” caused the 2018 California wildfires.
“Kevin McCarthy appointed [Greene] to the Homeland Security Committee,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “So there is really no consistency here.”
Greene responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks, accusing the New York Democrat of lying about her record.
“I have repeatedly asked you to debate me, but you have been a coward and can’t even respond,” the Georgia Republican said in a tweet. “But you go on CNN and lie about me. When are you going to be an adult and actually debate me on policy instead of run your mouth like a teenage girl?”

The two lawmakers both sit on on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which met earlier this week to discuss federal spending on the COVID-19 pandemic.
