Outgoing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took another veiled shot at President Donald Trump and Republican leadership on Sunday, saying the next lawmaker in her seat needs to represent “the people.”

Greene is resigning from her seat on Jan. 5, 2026, with a special election being held to replace her shortly after. The congresswoman said she has heard a possible candidate for her seat has said, “I’m not going to be like MTG,” which Greene rebuffed, citing her legislative record.

Greene recalled how she was one of only four Republican lawmakers to sign a discharge petition for the release of files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which she attributed to the growing wedge between her and Trump.

TRUMP’S ‘ALCOHOLIC’S PERSONALITY COMES THROUGH: WHITE HOUSE REPORT CARD

“This is what caused Trump to call me a traitor and I still refused to back down because I will stand with victims of rape against anyone even the very man I helped and fought for to become President. So if you’re saying you won’t be like me, are you saying you will just be a “yes man” to the President even when it comes down to covering up crimes of raping underage girls and protecting the elites?” Greene said on X.

Greene also said she forced a House vote to impeach former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in 2024 “because [House Speaker Mike] Johnson (R-LA) was not doing it.” She added that her Protect Children’s Innocence Act, passed by the House on Wednesday, only got a floor vote because she’d been “fighting leadership for months” for a vote, questioning if her successor would ever oppose leadership if “you won’t be like me.”

The congresswoman concluded her message by saying she won her race in 2020 without Trump’s endorsement because she ran to represent the people of her district instead of “the Washington Swamp.”

“If you are going to run to replace me, you better run for the people, telling them how YOU will REPRESENT them, NOT how you will bow in loyalty to the WH and Republican leadership. The race is about YOU, not ME, and the job title is Representative of the People, not yourself or the President or the Republican Party,” Greene said.

WHAT CAN JD VANCE DO TO STAY AHEAD OF THE PACK FOR 2028?

One candidate vying for Greene’s seat is Georgia Republican state Sen. Colton Moore, who has pitched himself as a strong ally for Trump. Moore told the Washington Examiner that he appreciates both Greene and Trump “very much,” and it is “extremely sad” that the two fell out as allies.

Georgia law requires the governor to issue a writ of election to the secretary of state within 10 days of a vacancy in Congress, after which that election will be held within 30 days of this written command. As such, the special election for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District will be held within weeks after Greene departs the House next month.
