At least two people have been injured in a major crash on an interstate outside of Arlington, Virginia on Saturday, after authorities said a truck plowed into multiple vehicles on the northbound interstate.

At least two people have been injured in a major crash on an interstate outside of Arlington, Virginia on Saturday, after authorities said a truck plowed into multiple vehicles on the northbound interstate.

Virginia State Police confirmed later in the evening that there were no life-threatening injuries, but some people became trapped in their vehicles in the incident, taking place just after 4 p.m. Eastern. The crashes occurred on I-395 northbound between Crystal City and the 14th Street Bridge, according to reports from the scene.

Local police confirmed certain ramps and lanes had been closed as a result. “Due to the multiple traffic collisions on I-395 NB, Army Navy Dr. at S. Eads St. heading toward the I-395 NB ramp is currently closed,” police said shortly before 5 p.m.

The driver of the truck also stole an ambulance from the scene of the crash, and struck other vehicles as it led police towards Washington D.C., with the individual later being arrested at gunpoint after crashing the ambulance. No information on the alleged driver has been released so far.

The same driver began plowing into vehicles as early as 3:30 p.m. in Rosslyn, Virginia on the I-66, according to Arlington Now.
