At least two people have been bitten by what officials are calling a rampaging dolphin.

A lone dolphin off the coast of Japan is suspected to be responsible for injuring two swimmers at Koshino Beach in Gamo-cho, Fukui City, on Thursday, according to a report.

Both victims were men in their 40s, the report noted.

The dolphin bit the first man on both arms, and roughly six hours later, it supposedly bit the fingers on the second man’s left hand.

Dolphins are highly intelligent and have a history of attacking humans, according to the report.

The area where the two men were bit has seen multiple dolphin attacks this year.

Experts believe the dolphin in Thursday’s attacks may be responsible for all of the 2022 incidents, the report noted.

“People have this image of dolphins as cute creatures, but they are wild animals after all,” said Tetsuya Matsuoka, manager of the Notojima Aquarium.

“We understand that there are certain body parts where dolphins don’t like to be touched, like the tip of its nose and its back fin.”
