Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley was name-called by a 9-year-old boy Thursday in New Hampshire.

The boy, named Adam, attended a campaign event of Haley’s and raised his hand to ask her a question. In the process, he referred to her as “the new John Kerry” which prompted those in attendance, and even Haley, to laugh.

“I wanted to ask you, so Chris Christie thinks that you’re a flip-flopper on the Donald Trump issue,” Adam said. “And honestly, I agree with him. You’re basically the new John Kerry on that if you remember John Kerry from 2004. So my question is: How can you change your opinion on that in just eight years, and will you pardon Donald Trump?”

The reference to Kerry implied the former presidential candidate’s change of opinion during his own campaign 20 years ago. As a senator, he voted for laws such as the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, and an $87 billion funding bill for American troops, but he later campaigned against all these policies. Kerry serves as President Joe Biden’s special envoy on climate.

Haley told the fourth-grader that she was proud of him for attending and then addressed the question.

“He’s basically saying that I’m not hitting Trump hard enough, right?” Haley said. “The interesting part of this whole situation is anti-Trumpers think I don’t hate him enough. And pro-Trumpers think I don’t love him enough. At the end of the day, the fact is, I’m just telling you the truth like I see it. It’s not personal for me.”

Haley represented the U.S. at the U.N. from 2017 to 2018. She is trailing former President Donald Trump in the GOP primary polls and is fresh off of the heels of a blunder during another town hall event in New Hampshire. When asked about what started the Civil War, Haley failed to mention slavery.

There are four other candidates vying for the nomination, including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson. When former Texas Rep. Will Hurd dropped out of the race, he offered Haley his endorsement.
