Drivers going from New York City to Philadelphia will no longer see funny traffic messages along the way, as the New Jersey Department of Transportation has reportedly been told by the Federal Highway Administration to stop with the tactic.
The agency asked the state to stop with the highway signs which had messages such as “Slow down. This ain’t Thunder Road” and “Hocus Pocus Drive with Focus,” per multiple media reports.

The Department of Transportation for New Jersey, which was ranked the third-worst state per YouGov, had previously warned drivers not to take pictures of the witty signs.
“We’re glad you’re enjoying the new safety messages, but please don’t take pictures of the VMS boards while driving! It is very dangerous and defeats the message we’re trying to drive home,” a tweet from October said.

The federal government holds jurisdiction over interstate highways in all 50 states, meaning the Garden State will have to comply with the request to end the messages.
