Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley called for the U.N. to be defunded “as much as possible.”
In an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Haley condemned the U.N. over its perceived weakness toward China, Russia, and Iran. She pledged that if she were made president, she would withdraw the United States from the U.N. Human Rights Commission and Paris climate agreement, as well as take other steps to weaken the organization — without leaving it altogether.

“All of these organizations, the World Health Organization, we shouldn’t be a part of it,” Haley said. “We should get out of it, and we should stay out of it. This all started when we helped China to get into the World Trade Organization.”
Haley advocated building relations with other countries, as opposed to paying “too much attention to these organizations where all they do is talk about issues over and over again, and they never do anything.”
“If I become president, we will get out of the Human Rights Council,” Haley continued. “We would certainly not get back into the Paris climate agreement … we would get out of the World Health Organization … we would defund the U.N. as much as possible.”
But Haley opposed the idea of leaving the U.N. entirely, arguing that it was still able to contain Russia, China, and Iran to an extent.
“The only reason, Sean, you don’t get out of the U.N. is we’re one country of five that has a veto, and the number of things we were able to stop China, Russia, and Iran from doing with that veto matters,” Haley said. “And so you keep bad things from happening, but we don’t have to pay at the level that we’re paying. And we don’t have to be in any of those other organizations.”
