Presidential candidate Nikki Haley bashed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) over his criticism of her proposal for mental acuity tests for sitting members of Congress ages 75 and up.
In an appearance on CBS’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Sanders, 81, denounced Haley’s suggestion as “absurd” and “ageist.” Then at an event on Tuesday, Haley fired back at Sanders’s comments, saying he was the main reason why such tests were needed.
BERNIE SANDERS BLASTS HALEY’S COMPETENCY TEST SUGGESTION AS ‘AGEISM’
“Bernie Sanders lost his mind because I asked for that. He is exactly the reason we need it,” Haley said in response to a crowd member’s question about the comment, according to the Hill. “Whoopi Goldberg lost her mind over it — and you know what she was doing? She was glorifying Dianne Feinstein and Maxine Waters. They are exactly the reason we need it.”
In his condemnation, Sanders compared Haley’s “ageism” to other prejudices, such as racism and sexism, saying that it should be fought just as much as the others.

“What did she mean? I don’t understand what — yeah, no. I think that’s absurd,” Sanders said on Sunday in the interview with Stephen Colbert. “You know, we are fighting racism, we’re fighting sexism, we’re fighting homophobia — I think we should also be fighting ageism.”
