All New York Police Department officers were told to wear their full uniforms starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday in anticipation of civil unrest ahead of the possible indictment of former President Donald Trump.

NYPD said even detectives who usually dress in plain clothes are expected to wear their full NYPD uniforms. In addition, NYPD officers put up a barricade around the criminal court building in lower Manhattan, and hundreds of riot police officers have been mobilized.

“We’re doing what we always do. We’re monitoring comments on social media, and the NYPD is doing their normal role of making sure there’s no inappropriate actions in the city,” Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, said on Monday.

Police officials are reportedly holding Zoom meetings with the Secret Service, court officers, and other security officials, according to CBS News. Intelligence sources claimed to see an uptick in violent online rhetoric on social media from domestic violence extremists, but it is unclear how big protests would be after the events of Jan. 6, 2021. The violent demonstrations at the Capitol led to more than 1,000 arrests

The Port Authority has also been made aware of the possibility of car caravans that could disrupt rush hour traffic, including traffic in bridges and tunnels. NYPD officers will also be monitoring whether there is a surge in flights coming to New York City and boosting security at bus and train terminals, a former NYPD lieutenant told the outlet.

Tension over the possible indictment reached an all-time high this week. The tension followed reports that New York law enforcement has been gearing up in anticipation of Trump getting charged. If an indictment is issued, it would be the first indictment ever issued against a former president.

Trump has urged his supporters to protest in downtown New York if he is arrested. Trump said on Saturday that he expected to be indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, but it is not clear why he believes Tuesday will be the day of his arrest. If he is arrested, his arraignment would likely not be until next week, sources told Fox News.
