Actress Olivia Newton-John “passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” according to a Monday Facebook post attributed to her husband.
Newton-John was notably diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer,” the post read.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.
The fund is “an independent charity sponsoring global research into plant medicine for cancer. These investments in new scientific research will educate patients and their caregivers about kinder options for treating cancer,” according to it’s website. “We are committed to realizing a world beyond cancer.”
Newton-John is known primarily for starring opposite John Travolta in movie/musical Grease, in which she played Sandy Olsson. She is also known for Xanadu, the 1980 musical film which featured the actress starring alongside Michael Beck and Gene Kelly. Her 1981 song “Physical” was an immediate worldwide hit. The song spent 10 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It is widely regarded as Newton-John’s biggest hit.
According to the Facebook post, “Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”

The actress and singer reportedly went into remission after her initial diagnosis, but the cancer returned twice, in 2013 and 2017.
