On 2022’s Election Day, a total lunar eclipse, or blood moon, took place. Notably, the combination of Election Day and the eclipse won’t happen again for hundreds of years.
According to Almanac.com, the coincidence of Election Day and the blood moon isn’t slated to occur again until 2394.
BLOOD MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE WILL RISE ON ELECTION DAY
“This is the first time in U.S. history that we’re enjoying an Election Day Total Lunar Eclipse. It’s never happened before and won’t happen again until 2394,” per the site.
Experts say that a Blood Moon will not occur again, on any date, until 2025.
“A total lunar eclipse – sometimes called a #BloodMoon – is set to peak Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 5:17am ET (1017 UTC). It’s the last one until 2025,” NASA tweeted Monday evening.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon align and the entirety of the moon is in the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, per NASA.
Unlike a solar eclipse, viewers don’t need special equipment or protective gear to view lunar events such as this.
Some Republican politicians have joked that the crimson moon is indicative of a “red wave” in the midterm elections.
“Even the moon is all in for the #RedWave on Tuesday,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted.
