One person has been confirmed dead, and others are injured at a school shooting at Michigan State University on Monday night.
Students were urged to shelter in place after reports of gunfire were made at two different locations on the campus. Classes and extracurricular activities were canceled for the next 48 hours, according to a tweet from the campus police. Students who live off-campus are encouraged to stay away from the campus.
A spokesperson for the University confirmed the fatality to Detroit News.
A tweet from MSU Police and Public Safety just before 10 p.m. said the agency was still receiving calls for an active shooter.

The number of injuries has not been released, but the university confirmed there are multiple. The second shooting occurred 50 minutes after the first. Both are believed to have been conducted by a single student.
“MSU Police report shots fired incident occurring on or near the East Lansing campus. Secure-in-Place immediately. Run, Hide, Fight,” a text message and email to students said, according to the Lansing State Journal.
City officials in Lansing have extended the shelter-in-place order to the surrounding community since the suspect is still at large, and a school board meeting taking place at the East Lansing High School auditorium was locked down, according to the outlet.
Campus police described the suspect as a “short man with a mask.”
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) confirmed she was briefed on the situation in a tweet Monday night.
