A woman was arrested after witnesses saw her shove a 3-year-old girl onto the light rail train tracks at the Gateway Transit Center in the Woodland Park neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, Wednesday night.

A woman was arrested after witnesses saw her shove a 3-year-old girl onto the light rail train tracks at the Gateway Transit Center in the Woodland Park neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, Wednesday night.

TriMet released surveillance video showing the toddler girl waiting with her mother on the platform for a train. Brianna Workman, a homeless woman, is seen staring at the girl and then getting up from the bench behind them. She walked behind the girl and pushed her onto the train tracks.

The mother and witnesses quickly rescued the girl from the train tracks.

“The child landed face-first onto the metal rail and rocks,” Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt said in a statement. “The child reported a severe headache and had a small red mark on their forehead after the incident.”

On Thursday, Workman was arraigned on charges of interfering with public transportation, assault in the third degree, recklessly endangering another person, attempted assault in the first degree, and disorderly conduct in the second degree, according to the district attorney.

The Oregonian reports that court records show that Workman is “listed as homeless.”
