The Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 to win the National League Championship Sunday.
Bryce Harper knocked the baseball to left-center field for the 2-run home run in the eighth inning that would earn them the winning point. It was the Phillies’ fifth game in the series against the Padres, who only won one game.
“WE’RE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES,” one tweet from the team read. “OMG OMG WE DID IT WE’RE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.”

The ninth inning came to a close when right fielder Nick Castellanos caught a fly ball to a roar from the crowd. At the time, the Padres had one man on second base and another on third.
This is the first time the Phillies will be competing in the World Series since 2009. It remains to be seen whether they will face off against the Houston Astros, who won in 2017 and competed in 2019 and 2021, or the New York Yankees, who have appeared 40 times, winning 27 of those times.
