The suspect, Cameron Turner, 22, was allegedly in a fight with one other man, according to police, and was attempting to shoot him as another man and woman were hit with gunfire. The violence broke out at the Fair’s Tower Building. Turner attempted to flee the scene following the exchange.

“The State Fair of Texas is a treasured event — a celebration of food, family, and fun,” Dallas Mayor Eric. L Johnson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Although this incident was isolated, I am outraged that anyone would choose to act out violently at the Fair. We will not tolerate this behavior.”

“The State Fair of Texas has long been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of the rights of responsible gun owning Texans. For that reason, the Fair has long allowed Fair attendees with valid handgun licenses to carry their handguns in a concealed manner while attending the Fair (except for locations prohibited by law),” the website reads. “A person holding a valid Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC), or a valid handgun license from a reciprocating state, is permitted to enter the Fair with his or her concealed handgun, provided that he or she thereafter fully complies with all applicable laws.”

Turner has since been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Fair subsequently remained closed Sunday morning, postponing its open hours until 2 p.m. with an increased security presence and more thorough screening process for those who enter.
