Police are asking for the public’s help after they found human remains in three separate suitcases off Florida’s southeast coast.

The grisly discovery was made by the Delray Beach Police Department on Friday after officers said they got a call from a construction worker claiming they saw something strange in the Intracoastal Waterway. Remains, confirmed to be that of a woman, were hanging outside of one of the suitcases, Chief Russ Mager said in a press conference.

After the initial discovery was made, officers said they found additional human remains inside two other suitcases near the waterway, all from the same woman. The victim is believed to be “a white or Hispanic middle-aged woman with light brown hair and approximately 5’4″ tall,” police said, adding that she was between 35 and 55 years old.

Investigators also said the victim was wearing a floral tank top with a black undershirt and black mid-thigh shorts.

Police said the dumping of the remains happened sometime between July 17 through July 20. Officers pleaded with the public for any information to assist with their investigation or surveillance footage from that period of unusual vehicles, unusual people, or anyone carrying or moving luggage.

Sgt. Casey Kelly said they believe the crime was “an isolated incident” and that there is no need for the public to be concerned beyond this case. He agreed with a reporter’s opinion that the crime was a particularly “gruesome” one.
