White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s absence from her scheduled appearance on The View was due to the White House‘s desire to support the writers’ strike and the ABC News program’s employment of striking members of the WGA East union.
Jean-Pierre appeared on the schedule for the daytime talk show and the hosts mentioned her on Tuesday’s episode.

The View did not offer comment to the Washington Examiner regarding her absence on Wednesday.
The White House confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the appearance was abruptly canceled after the White House discovered that the show employed striking writers.
In a statement, a White House official said, “Out of respect for striking writers, we pulled down our scheduled appearance on The View. President Biden and his entire administration sincerely hope that the writers’ strike gets resolved — and writers are given the fair deal they deserve — as soon as possible.”

Promotion for Jean-Pierre’s appearance was pulled from The View’s Twitter account ahead of the Wednesday broadcast, and actress Kim Cattrall was advertised in the show’s introduction. There was no mention of the press secretary or her scheduled appearance by the hosts and Cattrall was the only guest on the program.
The writers’ strike just entered its ninth week as the Writers Guild of America demands better compensation and working conditions. The View has mentioned the strike and the absence of its writers at the top of each week.
