Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) endorsed Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s (D-MI) bid for Senate, a major boost to her campaign as she faces a primary challenge to succeed retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).
Raskin, a leading House Democrat who served as an impeachment manager during former President Donald Trump‘s second impeachment proceeding, is slated to travel to Michigan on Wednesday and campaign with Slotkin in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Slotkin is facing a primary challenge from Hill Harper, an author and actor who has pledged to run to the left of the centrist Democrat. There are six other Democratic candidates in the race to replace Stabenow.
“This Senate race is a must-win for Democrats nationally, and Elissa is the candidate who will keep this seat blue and make the Senate a powerful vehicle for the common good,” Raskin said in a statement.
Slotkin, a three-term congresswoman who flipped a GOP-held seat in 2018, is the front-runner in the primary race. A recent Emerson College poll found that a plurality of Democratic primary voters plan to support Slotkin for the Democratic nomination for Senate, while 8% support Harper. Twenty-five percent are undecided, and 22% say they would support someone else.
Slotkin has proved to be a formidable fundraiser, raising $5.8 million and with $3.6 million in the bank at the close of the last fundraising quarter. Sabato’s Crystal Ball ranks the Michigan race as leaning Democratic.

On the Republican side, Berrien County Commissioner Ezra Scott, former Dow Chemical employee Michael Hoover, and State Board of Education member Nikki Snyder have declared a run.
Democrats swept the state of Michigan in last year’s midterm elections. As a result, Michigan enacted liberal priorities such as expanding LGBT protections and became the first state to repeal a right-to-work law in more than 50 years. Michigan Republicans have won only two Senate races in the last half-century.
