A retired Navy commander with experience in Iraq and Ukraine was mugged and beaten until he blacked out Saturday while he walked his dog in Philadelphia.
Scott Harris suffered broken teeth, severe bruising, swelling to his face, a brain injury, and needed at least 100 stitches after he was attacked in the Democratic-run city, according to a report.

“Large party going on across the street that in hindsight I probably should not have walked near, next thing I remember I’m in the ER because I kind of blacked out after that,” Harris said.
His wallet, credit cards, and ID were all missing when he came to, according to police, and a description of who attacked him has not been released.
“I did a year in a war zone in Iraq, did [two] years in Ukraine, and would not have expected this to happen in my own neighborhood,” Harris said.
The attacker was from the large party next door, Harris’s partner, Joseph Hurchik, said.
Harris was helped home by three women, according to Hurchik
“They brought him back, otherwise I don’t know what would have happened,” Hurchick said.
“We were on the stoop and he was just bleeding, I was on the phone with 911, I didn’t know where the blood was coming from, I didn’t know if he was stabbed.”

Harris and Hurchik had complained to the authorities about late-night parties, they said.
“This is what happens when something is not policed, it could have been worse,” Hurchick said. “It’s going to take a murder for this to stop.”
