Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) said the 2022 midterm elections on Tuesday were a “complete disappointment” for the Republicans due to low voter turnout and admitted that the GOP should have presented a better message.
Scott, who was not up for reelection, told Fox News host Sean Hannity that the “red wave” that was predicted failed to appear because of low voter turnout. Republicans were leading comfortably in the polls prior to Election Day and were expected to take both houses.

“Here’s what happened to us. Election Day, our voters didn’t show up. We didn’t get enough voters. It was a complete disappointment,” Scott said Friday. “I think we’ve got to reflect now. What didn’t happen? I think we didn’t have enough of a positive message. We said everything about how bad the Biden agenda was. It’s bad, the Democrats are radical, but we have to have a plan of what we stand for.”
The senator added that his fellow conservative members of Congress should unite around Georgia Senate hopeful Herschel Walker, who will face incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in a runoff election on Dec. 6.
Scott’s comments come amid reports that he was eyeing a bid for Senate party leadership, challenging current leader Mitch McConnell during party elections on Wednesday. But Scott has apparently changed his mind about challenging McConnell. However, Scott, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) have signed a letter to delay the leadership vote until after the Georgia election.
“Holding leadership elections without hearing from the candidates as to how they will perform their leadership duties and before we know whether we will be in the majority or even who all our members are violates the most basic principles of a democratic process. It is certainly not the way leadership elections should be conducted in the world’s greatest deliberative body,” the senators wrote.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has also signaled his approval for delaying the vote until after the Georgia election.
