Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) scoffed at the idea of impeaching President Joe Biden over alleged payments received from foreign nations.

Khanna appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Saturday to comment on rumblings of an impeachment inquiry against the president. Both Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Chairman of the Oversight Committee Rep. James Comer (R-KY) have previously teased opening one.

“What we should be doing in the House is talking about economic costs, child care costs. Instead, the speaker is not focused on the issues that people care about. I only have one question in my town hall last night on Hunter Biden, or Joe Biden, and that’s because the American people know the facts,” Khanna said.

Former President Donald Trump wrote a criticism on Truth Social of his fellow party members in Congress for not pursuing the proposed impeachment inquiry. Trump himself was impeached twice in his four-year tenure.

“Donald Trump’s post reveals everything, it’s total politics. Because he gets impeached twice, and he’s running in 2024,” Khanna said of the post. “They want to try and bloody up the president for 2024. This is all politics, and has nothing to do with helping the American public.”

Khanna has previously defended the Biden family, sharing his opinion that the testimony of two IRS agents before the Oversight Committee proved President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, did not receive special treatment.

The California representative also chairs the Reform Environmental Subcommittee and has served on the Oversight Committee since 2019.
